According to the last report of EAST (European ATM Security Team) in 2010 the number of cases of skimming device usage on the ATMs in Europe has increased to 24%.  Moreover, the total amount of losses of the banks coming from this kind of crimes is 144 million Euro. Only for the period from January to June 2010, 5743 crimes occurred and that is the absolute maximum from the moment EAST first started to record this data in 2004. As you know, the special solutions of ATM manufacturers are used to prevent the installation of skimming devices. It is often possible to identify the criminals due to video monitoring on the ATM.
